Abstract

This article analyzes the demographic and socioeconomic factors that influence the levels of financial education of the population in the department of Atlántico, Colombia. The results obtained from a logit model indicate that variables such as gender, social status and educational level are decisive when establishing how financially educated
is an individual. In line with the literature that addresses the analysis in other
countries, we conclude that the gender and/or the difficulties of access to education
affect the levels of financial education of the population and, consequently, people’s
financial performance.
