Abstract

We seek to identify some of the demographic factors and extrinsic conditions related to job satisfaction. The analysis is mainly based on two nonlinear econometric models, a Probit Binary model and a Probit Ordered model on data from Great Integrated Household Survey (GEIH in Spanish), which includes information from 6.641 observations. We found that there is a U-shaped relationship between age and job satisfaction; salary and formal direct contracting is positively associated with job satisfaction, and educational level, the number of hours worked and open places to work are negatively associated. Likewise, public employees report greater satisfaction than workers in other occupational position (such as self-employed, employees of private companies or laborers) and employers are negatively associated with job satisfaction.
