Abstract

Our research question concerns the correlational association between GDP, GDP per capita and employment, on the one hand, and the growth of energy consumption, on the other, between 2004 and 2016, for the department of Tolima, Colombia. Our aim is to distinguish the main production-andemployment macroeconomic variables that affect the consumption of energy, a fundamental exercise for the adoption of policies to increase the efficiency of the economy and electricity generation. The data were taken from public databases. We undertook a time-series analysis, detailing descriptive data. We applied an econometric model that shows a moderate correlation with a 10% significance between the macroeconomic variables and energy consumption. We reject the null hypothesis (H0) that there is no relationship between these dynamics.
