Abstract

The purpose of this article is to determine if there are incentives for higher education in the department of Sucre, Colombia, under the assumption of increasing returns that education can offer. To do this, we estimate traditional Mincerian equations, specifying differences between professional and non-professional workers using information from the Grand Integrated Household Survey (GEIH in spanish) of 2008 and 2014. The results show that there are differences in returns of education for professional and non-professional workers, because these are greater and increasing for workers with higher education. That implies higher levels of productivity measured with labor income. In contrast, non-professional workers experienced minor and decreasing returns in the years of study.
