Abstract

This essay studies the main incentives to responsible coal mining in Colombia and other countries. It also examines their current situation and critically analyzes the methods and sources employed. It begins by identifying the marketing limitations for responsible mining absorption and its productive organization. This evaluation shows that mining has economies of scale with higher gross profits when putting into place practices that reduce environmental and social impacts required by law, compared to responsible mining that adopts these practices beyond the legal requirements. Finally, the essay examines the fact that responsible mining mechanisms or incentives can be divided into market, government and technical incentives.
