Abstract

This article presents an interdisciplinary perspective to explore the disparities among Colombian departments. I take into account political geography to explain the formation of states in their territorial organization and its political and administrative divisions. The differences in development among departments is explained through economics and institutional and regional geography, to explore the role of institutions in the economic dynamics of the territories. This brings us to the study of public action, understood as action that transcends government action. It integrates the private sector with social and political institutions to explain how concerted action can be undertaken to fill the gaps among regions through the promotion of territorial development.
